Bio:

Mr. Brian "El Guapo" Dobyns graduated from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton about the same time the CD's were invented. He earned a BA in Spanish Linguistics and a minor in Latin American Studies from Cal State Fullerton. From there he went to Chapman University where he earned his teaching credential. Finally, he earned a MA in Education Administration from Jones International University. El Guapo has taught many different things since replacing his cassette player in his car; Spanish I, II, III, IV, Native Speaker Spanish, Yearbook, Health, English, Pre-Algebra and Wood Shop. He has been teaching AVID since 2016 and loves it. He frequently says that AVID is the one class that actually reminds him of why he wanted to be a teacher.

Along with teaching AVID, Yearbook and AP/IB Spanish, Mr. Dobyns does have a life. He is married to Charlotte, who is also a teacher in the Fullerton school District for 20+ years. Their daughter, Fiona, graduated from Troy High School in 2017, Cal Poly Pomona in 2021 and is working on her MA in Education and teaching credential. Their son, Aidan, graduated high school in 2021. He is currently enrolled in the Fire Academy at Rio Honda. Mr. Dobyns loves photography, especially capturing memories for the CEHS AVID students!

Megan McDonald - AVID Co-coordinator

Bio:

Ms. McDonald holds a BS in Kinesiology from Chapman University with an emphasis in Athletic Training. She began her career at Centennial High School as the Athletic Trainer while she finished her teaching credential. She later went on to earn her Master's degree in Administration from Point Loma University. During her time at Centennial, Ms. McDonald has Health, Online Health, and Success for High School. This will be her 7th year teaching AVID, and 6th year as AVID co-coordinator

Ms. McDonald grew up in Southern California and participated in high school and collegiate sports, swimming and water polo. She also participated in the Junior Lifeguard Program at Huntington Beach. She currently lives in Orange with her fur-baby, a Boston terrier named Ruby. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her nieces and baking.

Jessica Roberts - AVID Co-coordinator

Bio:

Mrs. Roberts AVID and Health and is an AVID co-coordinator at Centennial High School. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Health Science and Human Ecology from California State University, San Bernardino and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Chapman University.

Mrs. Roberts enjoys life in Riverside with her husband, Jake, her kids Penny and Zack, and her crazy puppy Fox. When she isn't teaching, Mrs. Roberts likes to camp, hike, and work out in her garage. She loves being active and enjoys the outdoors.

Cara Wheeler

Bio:

Mrs. Wheeler is a Corona native. She attended St. Edwards school in Corona for K-8 and then graduated from Corona High School in 1997! After high school, Mrs. Wheeler went to Riverside Community College and transferred to UC Riverside. In 2002 she earned a BA in Liberal Studies. She then went on to Chapman University where she completed her teacher credential Program. At Point Loma University she earned her Masters in Administration. Mrs. Wheeler Started teaching in 2002. She taught Algebra and Geometry for many years and has been teaching AVID since 2005.

Corona is Mrs. Wheeler's hometown. She has 5 brothers and 3 sisters, she's an aunt 31 times, and a great aunt 10 times. 3 of her brothers; Mr. Ibbetsons, all work in the school district as well. Mrs. Wheeler has been married for 12 years and has three children.  On her free time, Mrs. Wheeler enjoys playing sports, especially volleyball, because she says that it is the best sport ever, and she was lucky enough to be able to play in college. She also likes the outdoors. Camping and hanging out at the beach are her ideal vacations. One thing she always keeps in mind is to "Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry" - Padre Pio.
